Our curriculum is taught using innovative technique, materials and methods. We strive to create a seamless learning experience by providing an unbeatable formula for optimum achievement, and the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary for future successes.
Delivered in a thematic and integrated approach, the core curriculum is both comprehensive and thorough, meeting and surpassing the rigorous standards set by NY State. Teachers continuously connect students’ prior knowledge to new experiences and learning styles to individuals, thus creating a supportive learning environment. The process of instruction is dynamic:
Language Arts involves both written and spoken language, fostering growth in listening, reading, writing, concepts and skills, as well as oral and written expression and the mechanics of writing.
Science uses a multi-sensory approach, as students are encouraged to expand their observation skills. Through research and experimentation, students understand and apply scientific concepts, principles and theories pertaining to physical settings and living environments, and come to recognize the historical development of ideas in science. An original environmental syllabus created by our science consultant specifically for the Jewish Academy uses our vast outdoor space. Ecological units enhance student understanding that everything is connected.
Social Studies is structured to expand each child’s view of a multicultural world and his/her position in it. Students learn that an awareness of the past is essential in order to make sense of the present and to impact the future.
Math progresses sequentially, developing student’s problem solving skills and analytical thinking. Teachers use concrete manipulatives and real life problems to help students internalize math concepts.
