The Jewish Academy offers TaL AM Judaic-Hebrew Curriculum in our Elementary Classes! We would like to introduce TaL AM to those who are unfamiliar with the program.
In 1995 the Bronfman Jewish Education Center (BJEC) in Montreal completed an integrated Jewish studies curriculum for First Grade that is currently used in more than 400 day schools worldwide from all streams of Jewish life. Currently over 25,000 students Grades One through Five worldwide, use TaL AM materials, with almost 10,000 alone learning with First Grade.
The TaL AM curriculum covers Hebrew language, Bible, and prayer, as well as introductions to rabbinic literature and Jewish history in the older grades. These curricular components are designed to provide a solid foundation for Hebrew as a communicative and heritage language to develop Jewish literacy. The subject areas are spiraled and aligned to facilitate multi-lateral reinforcement of vocabulary, language skills, thinking and learning skills, and the thematic integration of concepts and values. Because of the wide usage of the program, TaL AM offers Teacher Training Institutes at locations around the world and has begun to offer programs to aid school heads and Judaic heads in adopting the curriculum.
The Tal AM program activates learning in all frames of mind by utilizing a wide range of activities for all modes of communication, integrating Hebrew Language acquisition, the development of Jewish concepts and values, and reading and writing skills. In accordance with these principles, the programs create a visual and auditory Hebrew environment in the classroom which is mirrored in the students' materials, thus extending their use into the home, enhancing retention and reinforcing the learning process. The curriculum offers a variety of stories, Jewish sources, prayers and blessings, as well as songs, recitations and plays which are age-appropriate and which aim to develop the child and his, or her, Jewish identity.
We are very excited to provide this award winning program at the Jewish Academy.
